Ethiopian Harrar Dark Roast - Texas Style Craft Coffee - Southeast Texas Small Batch Specialty Coffee
We offer our natural processed Ethiopian Harrar specialty craft coffee in one pound (1LB) sealed packages.
Our Ethiopian Harrar comes from the Eastern Highlands of Ethiopia and has a pronounced mocha flavor with a heavy body and a smooth, wine like acidity. We dark roast this offering to enhance its wonderfully rich mocha flavors and fully develop the heavy body that natural processed coffees from Harrar are known for. It is grown at altitudes that vary between 1500 and 2000 meters and consists of heirloom Arabica varieties.
Our Ethiopian Harrar is a natural processed coffee. This means that the cherry is allowed to fully dry before the beans are extracted. It also extends the overall processing time which creates the unique heavy body and wine like characteristics that the Harrar region of Ethiopia is known for.
Ethiopia is the primary center of origin of the Arabica coffee plant. As legend has it, coffee was discovered in Ethiopia in the 9th century by a goat-herder named Kaldi. He noticed that his goats became hyper after eating the cherries from the coffee tree, so he tried it himself. A monk approached Kaldi after he consumed the cherries and took some to his monastery. The monk roasted and brewed the coffee to share with other monks. As a result, they were able to stay awake during long nights of prayer. Since then, coffee has been widely accepted as a stimulant drink.
